Before
you start:
You
must style your hair like it will be under the wig. For
the best results either braid your hair straight back in flat
cornrows, braid in a flat beehive, or wrap the hair towards the back
or in a flat behive. Get the hair as flat and as tight as possible
before taking the measurements. This will eliminate bulges that
distort head contours.
Use
a soft measuring tape to measure. (This can be found at any craft
store)
IMPORTANT:
Make sure that your measurements are ACCURATE.
If you do not measure properly, your wig may not fit. Take your
measurements at least 3 times to be sure.
Measurements are taken in whole and 1/2 inches. Always round your number up to the nearest inch or 1/2, not down.
Example: 14 3/4 would be rounded up to 15
Special
Note: If
you are bald
or do not have a hair line
- you do not need to add the ½ inch mentioned below. Simply place
the tape measure where you would like the hairline of your unit to
begin.
The
averages below are just to give you an example. Not everyone will
meet these measurements - some may be under or over and that is
perfectly fine.

1.
The Circumference of the Head:
|
|
|
Measure
all around the head. Position tape measure so its edge follows
the hair line around the head and nape of the neck.
(Example
Measurement: 22 inches)
|
|
2.
From Forehead to Nape of Neck:
|
|
|
With
your head tilted down
measure from hairline at center of forehead straight back over
crown to center of hairline at nape of neck.
Keeping
in mind that your cap is glued to the outside perimeter of your
natural hairline on your skin. Then ADD
a 1/2 inch
to the measurement results. This
is VERY IMPORTANT.
If you do not add the ½ inch, your wig will be too small and
will not be able to be glued in front of your hairline.
(Example
Measurement: 14 inches)
|
|
3.
Ear to Ear Across Front Hairline:
|
|
|
At
front of ear, measure from hairline at base of sideburn, up
towards the top of the head and go a 1/2 inch behind the front hairline back down to the same point in front of
other ear.
(Example Measurement: 12 inches)
|
|
4.
From Ear to Ear Over Top of Head:
|
|
|
Measure
from hairline directly above the ear across top of head to the
hairline directly above the other ear.
(Example
Measurement: 13 inches)
|
|
5.
Temple to Temple:
|
|
|
From
temple to temple across the back of head.
Place
the tape measure at your temple to temple point on each side of
your head as shown in the picture.
Keeping
in mind that your cap is glued to the outside perimeter of your
natural hairline on your skin in this area as well. Then ADD
a 1/2 inch
to the measurement results. This
is VERY IMPORTANT.
If you do not add the inch, your wig will be too small and will
not be able to be glued in front of your hairline.
(Example
Measurement: 14 inches)
|
|
6.
Nape of Neck:
|
|
|
Measure
the width of hairline across the nape of the neck.
(Example
Measurement: 5 1/2 inches)
